3 is NOT my magic number

I wish this was a good news post but unfortunately it appears the 3rd time wasn't that lucky after all. That isn't to say that all is lost but so far it's not looking very encouraging. Cortisol level day after surgery number 3 was 133 which had us very hopeful but unfortunately, after that the following days were all in the 300s. On Friday, the day I was discharged, it was 330 which was a little lower than the day before but still not low enough to consider me cured.

The weekend was relatively quiet apart from a few visits from friends and relatives, but I had another DI scare and ended up having to take half a dose of desmopressin. It appears the DI is intermittent so we'll have to wait and see about that.

This morning I had some blood taken and tomorrow I have an appointment with my specialist nurse to discuss the results. We're checking all the pituitary hormones (click here for full list and their functions) and will probably discuss where to go from here. Personally I still think it's a little early and I won't take tomorrow's results as the be all and end all. I think my body has been through a lot (2 neurosurgeries in 2 weeks!) and needs time to heal. Any way, the next steps will be more properly discussed with my endocrinologist as I don't think they will involve more neurosurgery. Most likely it will be medical treatments until I am ready for an adrenalectomy or if I change my mind and accept radiotherapy (very unlikely!).

So I guess keep an eye out for tomorrow's post. Should be a juicy one...

PS: I've decided to spare you the details of some of the horrible moments during my hospital stay for several reasons, one being that I just can't bare to think about them again just yet. I intend to write a letter of complaint to the hospital manager so I will probably share the content with you then. Don't worry, nothing MAJOR, the medical care I received was amazing but let's just say the nursing/allied healthcare really needs sorting out!

  1. Stephanie, I'm angry that you had to go through all that (including the rude treatment) and you most likely still aren't cured. That really feckin stinks!!!

PS What size shoes do you wear? I need to know because I'm going to send you a pair of Crosc for your birthday :o)
